History...

In 2008 Dr Nigel McLoughlin was awarded project funding by the English Subject Centre to set up an online journal and resource which would be of benefit to teachers of creative writing and those who are training to be teachers of creative writing.

In March 2008, the first call for papers was issued through the English Subject Centre website and in the NAWE journal, Writing in Education. At that time a peer review panel was put in place. This panel was made up of academics from the UK, Ireland, United States and Australia all of whom had a research interest in the pedagogy of writing and who had published in that area.

At the same time existing online articles related to pedagogy in writing were sourced and organisations and other journals of interest sought out in order to collate in readiness for the first issue of the journal. Book reviews of recent major published works related to creative writing pedagogy were researched. A website was purchased and built while the articles underwent the peer review process.

A site was set up on facebook which grew to over 1000 members and this was used to publicise the call for papers and to alert the potential audience that the first issue of the journal and the resource had gone live. In March 2009, the first issue of the journal went live and recieved hits from all over the globe. In the first two months the statistics showed over 2000 visits from 64 countries!

During 2010, the journal expanded to publish two issues in February and December. It is hoped that the journal will continue to appear twice yearly and that the fourth issue which is due in July 2011 will attract similar interest.
