Creative Writing: Teaching Theory & Practice
ISSN 2040-3356
Welcome...
Thank you for visiting Creative Writing: Teaching Theory and Pedagogy. This is a new and developing online journal and resource site for teachers of Creative Writing and those who are in the process of training to become teachers of Creative Writing.
With the rise of pedagogy modules on creative writing degrees, many teachers of creative writing have begun to question why we teach the way we do; what it is that we deliver in terms of transferable skills; what the body of knowledge within the subject actually is, how the workshop actually works as a space for learning and many other questions. There is a growing interest and accompanying body of literature emerging within Creative Writing as a subject area, which deals with the theoretical issues surrounding the pedagogy of the subject. This debate is on-going in the US, Australia and in the UK.
This project aims to develop a peer reviewed international online journal dedicated to the theory and practice of teaching creative writing and also to develop resources which may be accessed online or through other organisations. This will be further developed over time. There is also opportunities for interested parties to engage in discussion, ask and answer questions and talk about what their theory of teaching creative writing entails in the related online forum. You can access the forum here:
In this first incarnation of the resource we have six substantial new peer reviewed articles, links to several online articles on a wide variety of subjects related to teaching creative writing and pages dedicated to available online reviews of influential books which deal with elements of the history, theory and practice of teaching our subject. You will also find a call for papers and there is an opportunity to leave feedback on this first incarnation of the site. In addition, we are also looking for helpful hints, tips and exercises for new pages planned for the next issue. You will find a full call for papers here:
If you want to be kept informed about changes to the site, you can join using the link at the bottom of the page. This means that you will be emailed when a new edition of the journal goes live. I hope you enjoy your visit to the site and I hope that you find the journal stimulating and the resource information useful. You can also find out a little about the history of the project on the 'History' page.
